I can’t help but think that there are more ways of generating electric power than what we currently do.

What about tide wve generators? I know that the tides are hugely strong and you cannot reist their power, so why hasn’t there been power stationes built upon craggy, rocky coastal areas of earth?

How about the geothermal vents on the ocean floor, fast flowing HOT water to power turbines?
deep and not so deep ocean currents?
volcanic heat exchanger, thermocouple electricity?
antarctic 300 mph wind electricity farms? Mountain top fast wind farms?

Has anyone theoretically figured out how to handle and capture the giga watt energies of lightning?
Could lightning strikes be attracted sufficiently and used to charge mountainous battery arrays?

I just wonder if these things could be done to free us from oil dependence.

Environmentalists have not only blocked oil drilling, they have blocked the building of dams for hydroelectric power for concerns over fish, blocked erection of wind generators for their effect on the view of the horizon, driven most all the smokestack industries to other countries along with the industrial jobs, blocked new refineries, nuclear power, etc., etc.
This list can go on and on.
They say we need better technology. Technology that doesn’t alter the environment in any way.
Like the perpetual motion machine, that is impossible.
What other reason can exist for all this blockage other than the desire to collapse the economic system?

The environmentalists campaign against smokestack industry in the USA has driven these industries and their jobs out of the country to places where environmental laws are less strict.
We cannot even build dams for clean hydroelectric power because it displaces fish. Even wind generated power is fought because the generators are unsightly on the horizon.
We cannot drill for our own oil because it will disturb frozen dirt in Alaska.

I have an idea to build something that uses an intermittent force. im looking to convert that force into power, is there such a generator to do this? I was thinking of like a wind generator, but my wind would only come in short five to ten second bursts. would that be enough to support any known kind of generators? where would i find such a generator?

I’m in construction, and I use my truck for work.. and it’s my only vehicle. I Drive in town, and its a pain sometimes. But I don’t have room for 2 cars. And it’s pretty hard to pull a 18 thousand pound trailer with a civic.
Working in CA now, People are really thick-headed here. Diesel is easier on the enviroment than gas anyway. Half of them don’t even know what they are talking about.

I figure they could just incorporate these into regular building codes so that all new buildings can have them. How about making new buildings that all commercial and industrial buildings have to have wind turbines and skylights to produce and save energy? I think big-box retail like shopping malls, outlet centers, and Wal-Marts, etc., should all have skylights so they won’t burn electricity during the day. They could even produce some for the grid with the wind generators. A lot of alternative energy isn’t taking place because the government isn’t enforcing it. If they put more teeth into it and put deadlines, I think that this would be the greatest thing since sliced bread. I know my hometown Austin, Texas, has an aggressive plan to make all new buildings go solar. How does this sound to?
I’ve read building codes. Now every building has to have indoor plumbing and a bathroom. They can’t have an outhouse by a house or building. I figure it would be awesome to enforce these, too. If anyone is interested in knowing about the squat toilets I mentioned, here is a website.

I have no objections towards self-sustaining buildings that more ecologically and environmentally friendly. Fewer things would thrill me more than to see the entire world go green. I support the enforcement of building codes that consist of the following.

solar panels
wind generators
passive ventilation
rainwater collection
super glass
geothermal heating pumps
solar water heating
green roofs with eaves
compact florescent bulbs
grass and trees

I think they should even require compost toilets with potable water that’s recycled and returned through a septic tank and incubator. They have building codes requiring bathrooms. You can no longer have an outhouse in your backyard. There was lots of social clamor when that happen, too. Further buildings are required to have fire exits, fire extinguishers, and sprinklers. Many of them are even required to have lightning rods. So if all these are included in building codes, I don’t see why my ideas should be excluded. Any thoughts on that?

2000watts a/c. Am I allowed to hook it up to the grid from my building? Will we get credits from the electric company if we start turning the meter backwards. I ask this because there is only information on solar, wind, and hydro grid connections and credits on the web. I live in New Jersey by the way.
Funny how people snort rather than congratulate when a breakthrough is made. I built a permanent magnet alternator that only need 200 rpms to generate 2000w and 15mph on a multi geared bike with a 26" rim makes 278 rpm which is easy to do especially when off the ground. It also generates electricity for some time after you stop peddling because of the momentum it generates on kick ass bearings, which means that it can be done in shifts without stopping electric production. One person who wants some exercise after the other.

I have improved above air-compressor designs with a radical new concept. It is being patented, so no one can copy this:

I use Siemens’ in wheel electric motors as primary drive
I use the DiPietro design seen in second clip ( rotary air motor) in an on-board electric generator. ( Similar to Honda 2KW briefcase model)
I use a Hemp-fiber (carbon-graphite) uni-body chassis on a aluminum tube frame.
My vehicle features "Flip-up" banks of micro-motorwind generators over windshield (which are like exterior visors). The pitch-drag coefficient is computer controlled, so maximum electricity generation can be achieved.

I am in the process of building an array of solar panels and a wind generator. when I am done with the first phase I will have a 12 volt wind generator, and 3 18 volt 8 amp solar panels. the inverter that I was looking at is a 48 volt inverter so my thought was hooking the panels up in series for 48 volts with 2 48 volt battery banks, but I am not sure how the wind generator fits in this system. Am I going to be able to do this or will I Just have to make the system a 12 volt system?
the 48 volts is for the particular inverter that I want.
