I do this with my coffee pot, so I assume it’s okay to do the same with the electric kettle, but I don’t want to break it!

I do have a heatsink/fan combo and my cpu temperature is at 123 degrees farenheit, which according to my motherboard program is in the green, but im still a little nervous as i just built this computer days ago (first time builder) and spent alot of money on this. if this is not cool enough what can i do to decrease the heat issue?
I installed a heatsink because my cpu did not come with one. how exactly does liquid cooling work? I have one spot open for a 120mm fan at the back that im going to put one in and have it pull out, should that help?
i did apply paste, it came with white paste though and really i was scared i put too much on there not know an appropriate amount

I am planning on getting an Acoustic-Electric Guitar. I already have a Steel string guitar. I have built up a good amount of calisus on my fingers, but what would sound better and which are better on an Acoustic-Electric Guitar?

I have a 4 dial electric meter in Dallas, Tx. It says "apply multiplier" but I don’t see on the meter what the multiplier factor is. My electric company says its 40, but I’m thinking the multiplier is actually 10. Any suggestions on how to validate? (I fully understand the concept of the multiplier – just need to validate the actual factor).

My neighbors all seem to have 5 dial meters that don’t use multipliers.

Which of these 3 girls would you choose ^_^?

I have two electric yellow african cichlids that I am raising. They are no more than 1 inch long. How long would it take a fish like that to grow to ‘full size’ I am having a hard time researching it so maybe a hobbyist would know. Thanks!

I of course have my opinions, but I want other points of view. Thanks!!

I am living back at home right now, with my mother, and my father, and my sister, and some cats, and a stray cat that I feed but that is not mine, and a dog, and a guinea pig. There used to be a sheep, but it was killed by a mountain lion. And there used to be peacocks, but my mother didn’t like how they dug up her garden, so my father caught them and let them go somewhere else, and now there is only one peahen left, and she seems very lonely.

I have been back home for exactly one month now. I was living in New York City – in Manhattan; in Soho. I was living with a boy – a photographer – a fashion photographer (or at least, an aspiring one.) And any reasonable person could have told me that having a relationship with a photographer is never a very good idea, because they spend their days taking pictures of pretty girls. But no reasonable person ever told me this. And so, I am now back at home.

My home is in Nevada County. Nevada County is in Northern California. Nevada County has a population of just over one hundred thousand people. It is where the gold rush began, over one hundred years ago. Nevada County is shaped like a gun. It is pointed at Nevada the state, because it stole the name, supposedly. You see – during the days of the gold rush, if someone were to trespass onto your claim, you could shoot them, no questions asked. But shooting a piece of land does no one any good, of course, so the miners must have concluded that the next best solution would be to shape their little piece of the world like a pistol.

And, given my surroundings, there is nothing particularly interesting to do. My friends have all moved away from here – to bigger and more exciting things. And so one night, I decided that I should start reading. Why not concern myself with the lives of others? You see – my mother has a rather large collection of books. They fill all the shelves in my house. They are stuffed in drawers. They are under her bed. There are some in boxes, stored in the basement, in the cold underground. And yet, most of them I would never care to read – they are mysteries or horror stories. But on one shelf, there sat about ten books that seemed very old, and out of place.

A few of those were old builder’s manuals, dated between 1930 and 40, which must have once belonged to family members who no longer exist. One was a book of fairy tales, with an inscription that read, “To Linda, love Mommy and Daddy.” (Linda is my mother, her parents are now divorced.) One was titled, “Elizabeth and Her German Garden,” which I am now convinced is why my mother spends all of her free time gardening.

But there was one more: an old, green, cloth covered hardback, titled, “The Secret Woman.” And in this book, like the book of fairy tales, there was an inscription. Except it was not from her mother. It was not from her father. It only said:

MF Haugen

P.O. Box 52
SLEMDAL
Oslo 3
Norway

And there was a little green sticker, too, which read, “Foyles, Books Bought, Charing Cross Rd. LONDON, WC2.” The book was printed in 1971.

My mother has never been to London. She has never be en out of the country. She certainly has never been to Norway. But I will never ask her who this person is, or was. And I will never know for sure.

I think they met somehow, when she was much younger, in college perhaps, long before she knew my father. MF Haugen must have had an exciting career, traveling around the world; perhaps he was an artist, or a journalist, or God forbid, a photographer. And while on one of many exciting journeys around the world, he must have stopped in a bookstore in London, and saw a book that reminded him of her. And he must have called her from the bookstore, and in his funny Norwegian accent, asked her what her address was. And he must have written his address on the inside, in case she ever wanted to send anything back. And he must have been married, which is why he included only a P.O. Box address. And he must have found the title of this book humorous (Norwegians must have a terrible sense of humor.) And he probably met girls wherever he traveled. And I wonder if that goddamn MF Haugen ever thought about his little Norwegian wife.

I wonder if she ever found out. Maybe he gave the wrong address to one of his girls, and she sent something she shouldn’t have to his home. I wonder if she ever told him to stop traveling, or if she ever left. Or maybe she just wanted him to stop traveling because she was lonely. How exciting would life be alone in Oslo? More exciting than a life in Nevada County?

Would she ever say to him, in her funny Norwegian accent, "MF Haugen, please don’t travel anymore. And please don’t send any more things to pretty girls”? Or would M
MF Haugen simply decide one day that he would no longer concern himself with girls he barely knew? Would they live the rest of their funny-accented, terribly humored, Norwegian lives together in Oslo? I bet that they did, somehow. And I bet that they were happy.

Of course, all of this I am basing around an address written in a very old book. But, until a reasonable person tells me otherwise, this is what I will continue to believe.

Where can I find a pink electric screwdriver?

My husband thinks that I am insane; however, I am doing some serious remodeling/redecorating and I want a pink electric screwdriver set. I know I have seen it in the past but I don’t remember where.

Hi, im trying to find careers that might interest me and im in need of some help. Maybe you could help me brainstorm…
First ill tell you about myself:
Im definately a science person. I cannot see myself in english, social studies, or math However i am very good in all of those areas as well.
Im taking AP Biology and i love it. i have always had a passion for biology and living things. Im sort of a tree hugger and like to think about the environment. However im interning at a hospital and i love working with the patients and doctors. Its a great atmosphere. Soo basically im trying to find careers in environmental science or the health field (I am open to other ideas as well). The things that have been running through my mind for
Environmental Science are:
- maybe something with building green
- someone who advises companies and builders
- working with the land and animals
Medical are
- Nurse Anesthetist
- something in Interventional Radiology ( i saw an angiography and loved it!)
- umm im not too sure, theres soo many possibilities.

Thank you soo much, feel free to list even the craziest jobs, i may have missed somethings that i like, so throw them out there! =)
Nick
I also like technology, maybe eco friendly techonology jobs?

Where exactly should an electric motor operate on the curve? I am assuming it is between pull up torque and break down torque but why? How does this also deal with the stability of the motor? What happens if the electric motor operates past break down torque? Also, please explain percent slip and full load torque relationship. Why is it necassary to measure this value?

New transplanted Dogwood dying quickly

I’m the new father of my first tree: a 7-foot high Dogwood freshly planted by my landscapers in the front yard about a week and a half ago. I live on mostly clay, but the top foot or so is topsoil put down by my builder last year when we built the house, and the landscapers dug a pretty big hole and transplanted the tree with some Pete / Pebble / Sand / Soil mix of some kind. I think they left the root ball intact with the native soil from the nursery. They put a water bag around the base, taught me how to keep it full, and mulched around that.

I put my hose deep into the enclosed pocket of the water bag that you’re supposed to keep full and put the hose on a timer so that it runs about 1 minute every 3 hours to keep it full. The water bag seeps water into the ground slowly all day keeping it moist.

When they planted the tree it was green. It is now all brown and dried up. There is one single green leaf left. I’ve sprayed the leaves with water in the mid-afternoon every day, even a some Miracle Grow canister at the end of the hose. But I feel like I’m losing the battle here.

One thing I learned after the fact is that these trees are not happy with direct sun, and unfortunately there is very little shade in my front yard (hence the reason for planting trees). Between noon and 4 pm, the front yard can get pretty hot even here in Western Massachusetts.

Any advice? Am I doing anything wrong?
Originally I filled the water bag once every morning, and did that for several days, but the tree began drying out too fast, so then I put the hose in it and kept it wet. Supposedly the soil it’s in drains quickly and I was told to keep the roots damp to minimize transplant shock, so I have some conflicting instructions on that. I have decreased the water supply today but I’m really thinking it needs water. It’s too soon to get root rot — it’s more in danger of getting too dry than too wet. My new lawn is having a hard time also — gets brown quickly if I don’t keep it well watered.

There are no bugs on the tree. (Although some gnats are enjoying the waterbag.)

My landscapers / yard guys planted the tree way too late. I was supposed to have it planted months ago, but due to lots of bungles they didn’t get it planted until now, which is the wrong time of year. I think that is working against me.
