Why arent more alternative energy methods being used?

When I was in Arizona, there was a whole field where huge solar panals collected sun energy. Why arent more ideas like that being used? Think of all the southern states that recieve plenty of sunshine for solar energy. Think of all the mountainous areas and flats that would be great for wind power. Why should money be an issue when it would more than pay for itself in the long run?

Not all alternative energy methids are 100% reliable and enough to supply the states or country energy demand. Besides energy companies are owned by big burocratic rich investors who have a lot influence in the congress and are not willing ot loose to thier business.
Simple, they don’t pay for themselves, even in the long run.
They’re terribly expensive, take up all kinds of geographical space and don’t nearly the power that standard fossil fuels do.
they are being used just not as much as fossil fuels becuase they are to much more expensive than alterantive ones. they are still trying to make more alternative fuel sources for a much cheaper price.
its all about MONEY! solar power is 5x more expensive than wind power. solar and wind power is only available when you have sun and wind. you can use coal, hydro and nuclear power all the time. arabians built a "solar village" and it was abandoned soon. now chinese built a three gorges dam and it generates a large part of china’s electricity. 12 turbines working all the time and they are still going to improve them. this if efficiency. except for the flooded plants that are now decomposing and releasing gases, otherwise hydro power is clean (I hope so).
with wind power you also have to buy land. and many dont find the looks of wind turbines nice. at least I dont. I like natural nature, not all the modern stuff making the view weird. wind turbines also kill bats. when the blade hits the air, low air pressure happens and bat lungs cant handle this, so their lungs explode.
small, residental wind turbines still sound quite expensive. they work for 20-30 years and they cost 20.000$ and more, plus repairs. people dont find this cheaper. its all about money. we should use something more cleaner, especially when 2 million people die each year cause of pollution. nuclear power is very efficient and clean, except when people fear things like chernobil. depleted uranium goes back where uranium was found – deep into the earth. so its still cleaner than coal power plants. and chernobil disaster happened cause the experiment failed and the building was very poor. modern nuclear power plants are like bunkers, they can resist any attack.
I am shocked that palm oil is used for energy. efficiency is poor and indonesian forests are cut down, so then palms are planted and we would run out of land if everyone would want to use palm oil as an energy source. algeae biofuel sounds like a good future. they can make 5x to 30x more algeae biofuel in the same area compared with palm oil.
we should save more energy. I’m glad I have a laptop cause its very efficient, only 90 watts. and I hardly use anything else. tv is history.
Joy, in your lifetime you will use a lot of electricity. Are you willing to pay for a generator to make it for your use? Can you pay for it now? Probably not. It is the same reason for most of us.

Dan
Solar panels are expensive and don’t work in the night or when there’s no sun so they arent really reliable. People think they’re a waste of money. and wind turbines arent reliable either. there isnt always enough wind to power a turbine. And wind turbines dont pay for themselves in the long run. More energy is wasted in putting one up than it can produce in it’s whole ‘lifetime’. I agree we should use more renewable energy though. They need to be cheaper for local use.
