What would happen if I got a wind turbine for my house?

I know It would produce more energy than the house would need, but what happens with the extra energy. I think I heard that it gets put into the system and goes towards other houses power, but the electric company pays you.
Is this correct?
We have a wind turbine right off a highway near our my house, and I don’t hear anything, or do you mean up close?
Well, I would pay for the turbine from the money from my job, instead of having a turbine at my job.

There are home size wind turbines that don’t make a ton of noise and that are affordable.

Many companies like this one do wind and solar combo systems for areas like mine that don’t get enough sun but often get good breezes.
You have to have an inverter to sell power back and when you do you often get "credits" toward your next bill. you may also get a check – each power company is different – check with your local power company for specifics related to your property.
Yes if you send back more than you use you are sent a check
but remember one thing they do make allot of noise
In some jurisdictions you can get paid for power that you supply to the grid, but some will not. Where I live you can sell power to the grid generated by wind turbine at one price but you will get a higher price if you sell power generated by solar. Check with your supplier.
After spending 20k for the turbine you will NEVER see a return on your investment for just a house. A business would be a different story though.
Unless you have a bunch of money to waste or do not live near the electric grid,, green power is pretty much a waste of money for one home to operate ,,, it makes people feel good.
the "excess power" is put back onto the grid and used by others,, if there is ever excess
are you using electricity right now?
is the wind blowing at least 12 miles per hour past your house right now?
if the answer is no, where would you get your electricity while your $35,000 wind turbine is sitting idle?
the monthly payments for a wind turbine & battery storage system big enough to run the average house will cost you around $450 per month. how much is your current electric bill per month now?
now do you understand why everyone doesn’t have a wind turbine installation sitting next to their house?
first of all you have to calculate you household requirement of electricity than choose wind turbine size with respect to it. some places you can sell "surplus" electricity back to the grid….it’s called "net metering" and depends from place to place if it is allowed and how much you’ll make….
you need to figure out how may kWH a month you use
you need to figure out how many hours a day and at what speed the wind blows at your house….the US Department of Energy has those calculations…….
and then the cost of batteries to store energy and inverters to use the energy.
cut to the chase….a Skystream or like turbine will supply about half the energy you need for a modest house without A/C or electric stove……IF you live in a windy area
to get off grid completely figure a 20 foot diameter blade……
Figure $15,000 to $20,000……..
