Well, i won’t do your homework for you, but i’ll answer your initial question.
When we run out of oil, the government will finally start taking serious steps toward changing our dependency on it. Rather than spend millions at war we should be spending money on research for alternative fuel sources. =)
Disaster
OK, first of all there is NO SHORTAGE of fossil fuels. The entire eastern half the united states is a gigantic pile of coal. It would be good for us to move on before there is a shortage, being that, we are causing problems. We will find new technology. Various things will make more and more sense, in any case, as oil demand rises and prices rise on oil. At some point solar/geothermal generation of some kind will make sense. Likely a mixture.
There was a recent president who won the election with this catchphrase: "It’s the economy, stupid!"
Well, unfortunately, our own greed and unwillingness to give up even a teeny tiny bit of our economic well being or luxurious consumption habits is THE problem. Even so, we keep on voting for a better economy instead of a better future. Maybe we’re all pretty stupid……
When we run out of oil, probably in twenty-five years or less, the economy of the entire world will collapse. The world economy is dependent on oil. Without it there will be a world-wide depression the likes of which has never before been seen. There will be no way to deliver farmed goods to the table, no way to commute to work to earn money for the farmed goods we won’t be able to get anyway. It will be a global disaster if alternative energy sources are not in place prior to peak oil production.
We will never run out of oil.
As oil supplies diminish, the price of oil will increase. Simply supply and demand. As oil prices increase and increase and increase, it will become in the best interests of the private sector to develop alternative energies, since now they will be cost competitive. Once the cost of energy from alternative energy is less than the cost of energy from oil, we will abandon fossil fuels entirely. And the remaining, extremely high priced oil will go unused because cars, factories, and houses will not be able to run on it anymore.
Well, I briefly researched this subject, and I found an interesting article about how we will never run out of oil. You can also search these topics on yahoo, google, etc. That could be extremely useful.
