What kind of thermostat do I need?
I just moved into a house that’s about 20 years old. It has water-based baseboard heat (water comes through a closed pipe system in the house to the baseboards and is radiated out to the room). There are four zones to the system, each controlled by their own pump. The heater is an oil fired cast iron burner (new in last 2-3 years).
The thermostats in the house seem to be the originals, and I would like to replace them. After pulling one off the wall, they are attached with 2 wires.
I’m trying to find out what voltage thermostat do I need. Are these 120/240 line voltage thermostats, Millivolt, or 24 volt thermostats?
Can I replace these with any thermostat? The house only has heat, and each zone is independently controlled with 4 unconnected thermostats. So, the replacement thermostat wouldn’t need to be fancy… but I would like digital, and programmable would be nice.
Thanks!

These are 24 or 12 volt thermostats. The basic Honeywell thermostats that are about $15 will work for you, go to HomeDepot or Lowes or someplace, you will find them. You can also get them programmable, so you can shut of or lower the temp in certain rooms at certain times, etc….
