What kind of insulation to use for doors and windows?

I notice that wind or air going in our house through the top of the front door. It has insulation except the top portion. What do you call the insulation for doors and windows because i tried searching for it in home depot site and lowes but i can’t find it and what they give me is the insulation for attic and basements. Can anyone give me some tips i really want to save energy.

You may be talking about weatherstripping. It goes either on the outside against the door, or on the "stop" that the door closes against. It depends which one want. If you’re talking about actual insulation around the frame, you may want to remove the trim and spray non-expanding spray Styrofoam. You’d want non expanding so it doesn’t affect the frame positioning by expansion. If you do this, take a razor knife and cut the caulking where the trim meets the drywall. Then with a small pry bar, remove the trim. Spray the foam and reinstall the trim and recaulk. Something else to check is on the threshold, see if it has adjustable screws that raise or lower the threshold by tightening or loosening. The way you can tell if you need to is lie on the floor and see if you see any daylight between the door and the threshold. If not see if you feel a draft on a windy day. Hope this helps

At all of your home supply stores they sell a door seal kit. It is thin strips of wood with a layer of foam attached. All you have to do is cut it to fit and tack it in place. Works very well. Follow the instructions and install properly.
