What is the best type of House Wrap product to use after a house is built?
My husband and I purchased a new home in a retirement neighborhood. When built the siding was installed right over the frame plywood. – when asked why no barrier between plywood and siding we were told, not mandatory by county builders code so not done. More and more residents in this development have had the siding taken off and the house wrapped. Since I have seen different types of house wraps used I wanted to know which is the best product to use after the fact when the siding has to be taken off and re-applied.?? My neighbors just had their house done and used a Green-Guard P38?? and then I saw another home now being wrapped with Tyvek???? So, which product is best even if it’s not one mentioned as this is going to be our last home. We live in the N.E where there is cold and snow. Please advise??

Tyvek and Typar are 2 of the better known better quality wraps. Either one would work.
Tyvek is the original and the best. I do not believe it is worth the expense to take off siding to install house wrap. Tyvek is supposed to cut down on air infiltration. It does not add any insulating value.
In the winter, when it is cold and the wind is blowing, use a lit candle. Pass it around windows, doors, electrical outlets or any other openings in walls, floors or ceilings.
If the flame flickers or gets blown sideways, you have air infiltration in that area. Just plug the leak.
