If u were president of the US (or elsewhere), what would u do (or not do) about global warming?
This is for a paper for school. Any more ideas? Comments?
So far, this is what I have:
If I were elected president of the U.S. in 2012, I would try to reduce greenhouse emissions for the good of mankind. The main goal of my campaign would be to lower the cost of alternative energy sources for the public. First of all, I would give tax incentives to civilians who purchased fuel efficient or electric cars, with the electric car getting the larger incentive. I would also give tax breaks and additional grants to those companies who researched alternative energy methods, such as solar panels, hydro-power, and wind mills. Furthermore, I would hire scientists to design and build me a luxurious solar powered jet for my international travels. Thus, I would not be hypocritical. Also, funding public awareness of energy savings would be imperative to my campaign. The main focus of this campaign would be how much money a person can save each year through simply unplugging items when they aren’t in use. Any person, business, etcetera would be given an enormous tax incentive if they only updated their homes to be more energy friendly; a few of these upgrades would include energy efficient windows, garden rooftops, and light colored roofing. On the international level, I would speak with other leaders and convince them to follow my lead for a better future. If I were the president, I would strive to decrease our impact on the environment.

Since it is for your school I decided to answer you point by point but you aren’t going to like it.
If I were elected president of the U.S. in 2012, I would try to reduce greenhouse emissions for the good of mankind. Is that really the job of the president. He is supposed to protect the constitution and our liberties. We expect the president to work in our interests.
The main goal of my campaign would be to lower the cost of alternative energy sources for the public. It is fine and dandy to lower the cost of something. To do that, you need to have a demand for the product. If there is a demand costs will go down. Without it, the costs would climb.
First of all, I would give tax incentives to civilians who purchased fuel efficient or electric cars, with the electric car getting the larger incentive. You give tax incentives. Are you going to reduce the size of the government to account for the those tax incentives or are you going to strap future generations with dept. If you plan to tax others more, than you are going to harm the economy. Typically what happens when the government gives out punishing taxes, they actually recieve less revenue as logic would dictate.
I would also give tax breaks and additional grants to those companies who researched alternative energy methods, such as solar panels, hydro-power, and wind mills. same comment as before.
Furthermore, I would hire scientists to design and build me a luxurious solar powered jet for my international travels. If they could desing solar powered jets that were economical, they would. Thus, I would not be hypocritical. Also, funding public awareness of energy savings would be imperative to my campaign. You can’t just have people design something for you. The president shouldn’t use other peoples money to design special things for him/her. That would be more fitting for a king or dictator.
The main focus of this campaign would be how much money a person can save each year through simply unplugging items when they aren’t in use. Once you start paying your energy bill, you have an incentive to conserve. Who wants to throw away their money. On the other hand, if I buy something such as TV, I expect to use it without the government trying to regulate its use.
Any person, business, etcetera would be given an enormous tax incentive if they only updated their homes to be more energy friendly; a few of these upgrades would include energy efficient windows, garden rooftops, and light colored roofing. Same answer as before. If you give tax incentives, you have to reduce government, increase borrowing, or increase taxes elsewhere. When you start paying your own utilities, you have an incentive to do those things anyway. I support this item except the roofing and garden rooftops but it has to be paid for. I have my garden. My roof is too dangerous and weak to garden on.
On the international level, I would speak with other leaders and convince them to follow my lead for a better future. Agreed. Every leader wants others to follow. The duty of our president is to convince others to follow for a beneficial future but to be sure to work in our interests.

Everyone, Everyone, wants to decrease our impact. Noone supports dirty air or dirty water. There is a cost to every option however.
are you running for president? i would probably just ignore it and leave it for someone else. or ban hairspray and hummers.
I would do whatever was a pro-growth policy.
Therefore, I would do NOTHING.
DENY DENY DENY, Global warming is a myth, and if it’s real and something does happen, I’ll be dead by then. I’ll let everybody else deal with that after im dead.
I certainly wouldn’t ignore it; but I’m also sick of companies and organizations exploiting it and blowing it out of proportion in the interest of making a profit. What does being "green" even mean?
i would not tax anyone for the environment cuz then they might not vote for you again but i will make an alternative by like burning dog poop or something
for God’s sake…there is no man made global warming. The Earth has been here for 4 billion years, and seen far worse catastrophe than mankind, and amazingly it still survives. you’ll see one day everyone will get over the global warming hysteria, and see it for what it is…massive profiteering. follow the money…thats all Im going to say….
I would only focus on teaching conservation. Any prohibition, restrictions, etc. only creates a black market and the worse always comes out. If we all practice conservation, take care of what God gave us, the best will come out with no Government intervention.
I would do nothing.
Since you cannot change the cycles of the planet.
Let’s say that it is man-made and real:
BAN EVERYTHING THAT EMITS CO2. Taxing will do nothing but make the people go broke. All you have to do is ban all production, all cars, all houses that use solar power, I-Pods, Computers, The Internet, etc. and you get the point. Jail and execute everyone who uses any of these devices.
I really haven’t seen any evidence that supports that carbon dioxide is a dangerous gas.
i would NOT worry about it. there are other things that are more important like not leave others make us slaves because if we were slaves you wouldnt have to time to work in the Gloval warming lol
i look at it this way;
Is global warming happening? Quite possibly.
If global warming is happening, is it natural or caused by human activity? Probably mostly natural, maybe a slight bit of human causation.
Can we do anything to prevent global warming? Doubtful.
If global warming is happening and we don’t do anything, will it lead to catastrophe? Even more doubtful.
First of I would tie and gag Al Gore then kick his azz for lying to the world , then deprogram the idiots who believe in global warming !!
I’d prepare for the next ice age.
Global warming is BS! I dont work for a oil company either. Im just a regular American who doesnt want to get taxed to death for some BS..

This is what I would do…
I would eat beans for 15 days without going potty, then prepare and light a lighter in my rear end when about to pass gas, light it and watch the globe getting warmer…
I would take a different approach. I would start with the statement "As the president of the United States I would endeavor to uphold the constitution to the best of my abilities and ensure that all citizens are provided with the best opportunity to exercise those freedoms in whatever fashion they wish."
As a leader of the free world it would become imperative that Presidential direction would be based on real science and not politically driven ideology and therefore maintain respect for the principles outlined in the documents that prevent oppressive forces from removing each citizens god given rights. The President is the champion of the oppressed and should never take a stance that would ever put him/her in a position to appear a dictator, capriciously omitting peoples rights. It is also important that the President understand that a tax is the removal of freedom and should never be used to place any one group or person above another.

Unless you can control all aspects of World, including the people living from the Amazon to China to Germany..the point and Goal would be non achieved.
You want the spending of tax payer money through incentives and not getting nothing back in taxes through tax breaks…you just made our economy worse…
