How do I get bats of insulation to stay between ceiling joists?

I had a leak and removed all insulation. About half of it had to be tossed. i want to re-use about half of the insulation. But when I stuff these bats of insulation back up into the ceiling, what’s the best way to get them to stay up there before I put drywall up?

Get a can of spray adhesive, the rest is obvious.
I agree with the answer about the paper on the edges being stapled That’s easiest.
However a little blob of contact cement every so often can also work wonders. Apply a dab in the same spot on both sides, let dry, then it will stick when pressed.
to hold insulation in place I use 16 penny nails every 16 inches or so nailed into the side of the joists, then I can go back later and put up my vapor barrier
They also make something called an insulation pin for just this purpose, however all of the answers would work just fine, and probably save you some money too.
Mosr places which sell insulation also sell 20" joist tye wires to hold the insulation. You just bend the wires between the joists undeu the insulation and above the ceiling.
as you are putting the bats back up staple 6mil poly up for vapor barrier if done right it should be able to hold the bats in place before drywalling
You can use insulation retainers – they’re springy wires that just fit into the opening between 16" stud/joist intervals. Typically they’re used under floors, but can also be used above ceilings before sheetrocking.
Usually they have about 1" of paper on the sides, staple that to the joists.
In our house we had a similar problem. The easiest was just to run string across every 18 inches or so and staple gun it to the studs. As long as the staples go in pretty deep, you can just leave the string and staples when you sheetrock.
i use a wire shirt hanger cut the straight part off it fit between the joists perfectly
