Home Heating, Oil, Nat Gas, or Electric?
Help!
I have a 2 story, 1000 sq ft home in western PA. We need insulation, better insulated windows, and a cheaper heating source than Saudi Home Heating Oil.
I was thinking at first getting the walls with blown in insulation and then possibly a 2.5 ton heat pump with an electric Air Handler.
I want to get away from Saudi oil just out of principle. My options are electric or Nat Gas. What is the best furnance options? Any ideas?
At first we were not going to insulate but I guess we will do this first. There just is never enough money to go around.
So does anyone have good feedback or poor feedback on Goodman, Amana, Lennox, Trane, etc…?
Thanks for your time and consideration.

a natural gas furnace will be your best choice not only is it cheaper but also cleaner
Hands down, if you have nat. gas available, it’s your best choice. Don’t worry too much about the brand name, even the low dollar high efficiency units are pretty good today….stay away from multi stage or variable speed systems. Keep it simple and you’ll have a lot less trouble down the road. Do your best to find a professional installer, as the installation can make the most difference in whether the system gives long, trouble free efficient service. I wouldn’t discount other units, but I’ve installed most brands over the years, and I have no problem with Goodman, or Payne, which are less expensive than the major brands, but, I think, every bit as good.
Hope this helps.
