Certainly with all due respect to you, and any who answer, it seems you’ve already done some research, OR have seen such on various TV shows or sites.
I always look at alternative housing structure sites. I note that within the past year at least; there are many ads, and proabable links to CONVERSION alternatives. ONE being storage type/ POD type containers.
As answer # 1 states, obviously insulation is a factor, but that’s the case in any medium of construction for a home.
I won’t send links here, but certainly you have access to the WWW and a browser search using keywords. I suggest that, even if just to see the many varieties of alternatives.
I connected with a company in Texas that manufactures and delivers a STEEL House for approx. $12 per sq. ft.
Without knowing your definition of FLOATING, I’d have some fun today checking out everything from Log end cut housing to Cob housing, to Kit housing, to Steel structures, to contractors offering alternatives.
The essence of the dwelling, the finish, and reliability have been proven. Certainly there are things to consider in economy etc. and your location might offer you many more VERY specific ideas and/or challenges.

Those containers have no insulation on them so you are not going to be very energy efficient in your new home.
yes they can . I just seen a whole show on it a few months ago.
The best way to go is if you can do all the work your self.
in the show they used 4 or 5 to make a 2 story home it was very kool.
