We looked at the cost of buying a whole home alternative energy system to try to cut down on our home electric bill…it has been cold this winter! Anyhow, the cost of a whole home system was pretty steep for even just a couple of solar panels and the cost of a wind turbine was kinda up there too. Does anyone know of any online resources that he could use to build a small system that would help us?

How would you compute the amp/watt demand by the hour for a house wired 110/120 volt? Looking to install a wind generator for the retirement home and would like to be off the grid. House would have basically all modern appliances, air and heat plus would probably run a pump for the well. More than likely there would also be a couple out buildings to be powered.

A big concern surrounding wind energy is the safety of birds. Is there a current model that eliminates this problem? If so, is there a version of that model for home use?

I've often wondered this. When you have two or more AC generators (say two different power plants) produce power, it seems like it would be impossible to be sure the two are in phase with each other. So how can the two be linked into a power grid? Is the same technique used when hooking up a home generator (from a wind turbine, for example) to supply the grid?
